| Cool Season Grasses of New England a. Kentucky Blue Grass- Kentucky Blue Grass is very unique in the sense that for every seed of blue grass, 15 blades of grass are produced. This is great for tightening up an existing lawn. Bluegrass loves sunshine! b. Perennial Rye Grass- Rye grass has a bunching characteristic and loves to take a pounding. It is used frequently on athletic fields, as it can rebound from the abuse it takes. It grows very quickly. c. Fescue Grass- There a few types of fescue grasses that are available in the northeast. Chewing fescues thrive in shady areas. Tall fescues are great for areas that can not get a lot of water. It has a very deep root system, and because of this it can exist on less water. It is great for people who do not have irrigation or for cemeteries that do not have access for a lot of water. |
